Overview

Island peak also is known as Imja Tse is situated in the Everest/ Khumbu region towards the south of the world highest peak Mt. Everest (8848m) between Ama Dablam and Lhotse Mountains. Island peakIsland peak is one of most Trekking peak in Nepal. it is because you can combine your trek Everest Base camp and Island peak climbing. Eric Shipton’s party in 1953 named this peak as island peak as it is seen as an island in the sea of snow from Dingboche. Swiss team first climbed this peak in 1953as a preparation for Everest expedition. Island peak climbing offers the adventurous experience of climbing in the high altitude and the excellent view of the towering mountains including the world highest Mt. Everest (8848m). Island peak climbing also offers the views of the glaciers like Khumbu glacier, Nozumpa glacier, grandeur culture of the Sherpa, natural beauty. From the top of the island peak, you can enjoy the close-up view of the surrounding mountains like Mt. Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablam, and Kanchenjunga and many snowy peaks.

Island peak climbing journey begins with the 30 minutes scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and follow the trekking trail of the Everest base camp trek up to Dingboche and then walk along the Chukkung valley. While walking to the base camp of the Island peak, you enjoy the richness of culture and grandeur of nature of the Everest region. You traverse through the Sagarmatha national park, Dudh Koshi river valley, numerous Sherpa villages like Namche, Tengboche, Khumjung, Dingboche etc, alpine meadows with the beautiful view of the mountains, Glaciers, waterfalls etc. In Sagarmatha national park you see various types of flora and fauna as well as the wildlife like Himalayan Tahr, Red Panda, goral, Serow, musk deer, snow leopard etc. You also get chance to explore the Sherpa culture. The best seasons to for Island peak climbing are autumn and spring when the weather is clear and you can have the clear view of the mountains.

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu (1310m/4264ft.)
Day 02: preparation for trekking and climbing.
Day 03: Fly to Lukla and trekking to Phakding (2652m/8700ft.), 3/4 hours walk
Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazar (3440m./11283ft.), 5/6 hours walk
Day 05: Acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar, 3/4 hours hiking
Day 06: Trek to Tengboche (3860m. /12661ft), 4/5 hours walk
Day 07: Trek to Pheriche (4240m., 4/5 hours walk
Day 08 Rest day at phiriche
Day 09: Phiriche to Lobuche (4930m.), 6/7 hours walk
Day 10: Lobuche to Gorekshep, Everest base camp and return back to Gorekshep, 5/6 hours walk
Day 11: Hike to Kalapatthar and then return back to Dingboche 6/7 hours walk
